I’m trying to remember the last time the Republican winner went on to win the nomination: Ted Cruz in 2016? Gail Collins: And remember, Trump won Iowa in 2020, when he was an incumbent president looking for a second term; that didn’t turn out all that well for him, either. Bret: Not that I’m rooting for him to win in Iowa. Bret: Her zinger in the debate with Ron DeSantis — “You’re so desperate, you’re just so desperate” — could be turned into a country music hit by Miranda Lambert. Or maybe Carly Simon: You’re so desperate, you probably think this race is about you.

It breaks your heart, but as Carly Simon sang, there is more room in a broken heart. And yet here we are, atoms with consciousness, each of us a living improbability forged of chaos and dead stars. Flagg’s highlight mixtapes are downright gratuitous — look at him reducing these poor kids into piles of gristle and bone! It should honestly come with a content warning.” (Matthew Dallett, Brooklin, Maine)In The Wall Street Journal, Jason Gay rendered a damning (and furry!) So if you look at the last three years, we’ve inducted the Go-Go’s, Tina Turner, Carole King, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon, Pat Benatar. Number two, we just remind them to understand the genesis of rock ’n’ roll. Why was it important for the board to take action against Jann Wenner so quickly? Because those things go against the heart and soul of what the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is all about. Rock ’n’ roll doesn’t know color.

9 p.m. Dance in a dive barMusic has long been an integral part of the Vineyard (the island was a folk-music destination in the 1960s, drawing the likes of James Taylor and Carly Simon ); these days, there is live music every night of the week during the summer. The Ritz , a year-round dive bar with live music (entry $5), will have you dancing to local bands like Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish and Dukes of Circuit Avenue. Up the block, you can watch the summer crowds from the porch bar at Red Cat Kitchen , where punches (from $17) and nonalcoholic cocktails (about $11) go down easy. For a respite from the noise, you can get ice cream at Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium : Adventurous eaters may reach for the lobster flavor (if you really think you’ll like the taste of frozen crustacean, go crazy), but classics like peach and black forest are the real winners.

Rose Styron used to start her daily swim of the season in May, when the waters off the long dock at her house in Vineyard Haven, on Martha’s Vineyard, still barely reach 50 degrees. “Now that I’m 95, though,” she said one day in April, “I may wait until June.”The first of Styron’s four books of poetry, “From Summer to Summer,” a collection for children, was published in 1965. Her most recent, “Fierce Day,” a coming to terms with the death of her husband, the author William Styron, in 2006, was published in 2015. As long as guests are interesting, they are summoned there still. The Styrons were the first people the singer-songwriter Carly Simon wanted to meet when she arrived on the Vineyard in 1970.

CNN —“You Oughta Know” why Alanis Morissette didn’t perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony over the weekend. The singer had been advertised to perform “You’re So Vain” with Olivia Rodrigo as a tribute to inductee Carly Simon. “There are some misinformed rumblings about my not performing at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this past weekend,” Morissette wrote in an Instagram story on Monday. “I tolerated it because nothing would stop me from connecting with those who I cared about and resonated with. I’ll continue to show up in those environments with bells on.”CNN has reached out to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for comment.
Duran Duran stumbled but stayed sophisticated. The four acts found very different ways to celebrate on Saturday night, but all can now forever say they’re Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. “Rock & Roll is not a color,” he said. “One, I know, is that I’m a rapper and this is the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”He’s only the 10th hip-hop artist among well over 300 members of the Hall of Fame. “I‘ve been rockin’ rockin’ rockin’ rockin’ since the day I was born,” she sang, “and I’ll be rockin’ to the day I’m gone.”She closed the night leading an all-star jam of her fellow inductees on her country classic “Jolene.” Le Bon, Benatar and even Judas Priest singer Rob Halford took a verse.
In an interview with Pollstar magazine published Thursday, Parton said she plans to do occasional "special shows" but doesn't think she'll tour again. When it comes to her fervent fans, Parton thanks technology for keeping her so connected to them without touring. “You can do special shows in special ways. I will be doing some of that.”Parton also said she's working on a rock ’n’ roll album and hopes to have some legends of the genre sing with her. "When I got nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I thought 'Well, no better time to do it,'" she told Pollstar.
NEW YORK — Joanna Simon, an acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Emmy-winning TV correspondent and one of the three singing Simon sisters who include pop star Carly, has died at age 85.
